There is a seductive draw to always having the latest and greatest toys and gadgets. People line up in front of Apple retail stores hours before they open on the day a new device is being launched.

This urge to possess the newest gadgets drives people to do crazy things… like getting into slapping matches with the person who beat them to the last remaining item in inventory, or worse – get into ridiculous amounts of debt to pay for all the nonsense.

What if you could update your toys at huge discounts once a year though? Would you do it? Most people would. Hence why black fridays are extremely successful days for retail stores in the west. Heck, even online giants (like Amazon) are building up the hype of “Black Friday Savings”.

It is easy to get suckered into having to own the latest bells and whistles, I know. I remember when I first started out as an internet marketer, any extra money I made (that wasn’t already spoken for) would go towards upgrading my phone, laptop, computer, etc.

I always told myself I needed it to make my business better but truth was, I did not need it. I simply wanted the coolest gadgets so I’d have bragging rights among friends.

Since then, I have matured a bit and only upgrade to the latest and greatest when I actually need it. For example, I still work off of my old Asus EEE PC travel laptop. I certainly could be upgrading it to something new but it still does everything I need it to do, so why would I?

My point is this: Everyone wants your money. Instead of spending it on things you really do not need, why not put it towards things that will actually help you propel your business forward?

If Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is your thing (and – since you’re reading this SEO blog – I assume it is), here are a few items I would recommend investing in instead.

Hosting: Unless you already have paid hosting, get it instead of gadgets you do not need. There are plenty of great hosts out there, but the one I have been using for many years now is HostGator.
I absolutely love the easy access to support they offer 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Tip: prepay for a year or two at a time for ultimate savings.

Long Tail Pro software reviewKeyword tool: Having a keyword tool to do your research with is critical – especially if you intend to leave a mark with your SEO initiatives. There are plenty of tools out there. Some even require you to pay monthly for them, but unless you do an insane amount of research, get LongTail Pro. It is the one I use also.
It gets updated regularly, has plenty of features, and does absolutely everything (and more) than I need it to do.

Backlinks: I could of course point you to a million different tools and “how to” guides. Some of which are great to have, but none of which (in and of themselves) will get you any closer to your desired top search engine rankings. Which is why I recommend investing in premium backlinks like LightningRank instead. They aren’t exactly cheap, but are absolutely worth it.
I have never had regrets investing in them. They always brought me results. What more could I ask for?

You aren’t limited to getting those on Black Friday only, but they are great alternatives to ugly christmas sweaters or fragile gadgets you really do not need.
